To whom it may concern, 

  I like to report the problem I have with the Microsoft Excel 2010 powerpivot add-in. The data menu refreshAll button does not work, which shows refreshing and complete; but when I opens powerpivot menu->powerpivot window, manually opens the query sheet in design window, input password, the query starts reloading all data and refreshes properly. 

  One excel sheet works fine in terms of refreshAll button with the following connection string:

Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=****;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=***;Initial Catalog=*****;Data Source=****;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=*****;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False

  The one does not work with the following connection string:

Provider=MSOLAP.4;Persist Security Info=True;Initial Catalog=Microsoft_SQLServer_AnalysisServices;Data Source=$Embedded$;MDX Compatibility=1;Safety Options=2;MDX Missing Member Mode=Error;Optimize Response=3;Cell Error Mode=Tex

As far as I can see, in the first connection string the password seems to be hard-coded:

... ;Password=****; ...

The second one does not have that string. I suppose it's the native/embedded connection therefore.

thanks, I reviewed. First one uses pivot table, not powerpivot; second one uses powerpivot, and then, there is a problem with Excel 2010 powerpivot feature - RefreshAll button in the excel windows does not work as RefreshAll button in powerpovit window. I already moved the post to Excel powerpivot forum.
